The OneDrive team is excited to share the latest functionalities that landed in production in the month of September-2019.
Here are the list of features:

  • Differential sync for all file types
  • AutoCAD-based previews of DWG files in OneDrive and SharePoint
  • Common file sharing experience in Outlook web app
  • Support for OCR in scans on iOS
  • Windows Virtual Desktop – General Availability

Differential sync for all file types
Roadmap ID: 33412

Differential sync brings the ability to sync only the parts of large files that have changed, not the entire file. This makes the file synchronization process faster for these files. It also reduces the time taken to upload and download a file as well as consumed bandwidth.  This month we are rolling out the ability to leverage differential sync to all file types (besides Office files) stored in OneDrive and SharePoint.

To learn more and see the demonstration of this functionality, you can access the recording of our recent webinar  “Syncing up with OneDrive”.

Common file sharing experience in Outlook web app (OWA)
Roadmap ID: 51541

We are heavily invested in making the sharing experience consistent, reliable, intuitive and secure.

Instead of attaching files to an email, you can easily share a file or folder with your colleagues by sending them a link and enabling necessary access permissions. This also helps maintain one source of truth with everyone having access to the most updated version.

We want to make sure this files sharing experience is ubiquitous across platforms. With this latest feature release, when you copy/paste a link to a file stored in OneDrive, Outlook Web App (OWA) will reconcile the file name as a hyperlink instead of the pasting the full URL. You also have the control to then change the access permissions on the shared link.

AutoCAD based previews of DWG files in OneDrive and SharePoint
Roadmap ID: 33414

For those working in architectural, engineering, and manufacturing spaces, ubiquitous access to computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and tools is key to staying productive. As we announced in March, we’re working with the Autodesk team to better connect the industry-leading capabilities of AutoCAD with DWG files in OneDrive.

We are pleased to announce the general availability of AutoCAD-based previews of DWG files in OneDrive and SharePoint that will help you see all the extended detail as you focus and zoom on different facets of CAD drawings. Because the AutoCAD previews are built with the original AutoCAD engine, it displays drawings with the precision and fidelity of AutoCAD – consistent across the web and in the native AutoCAD application.

When you need to further explore or edit these drawings, use the built-in links to the AutoCAD web app to open files directly from OneDrive. The AutoCAD web app features familiar drafting tools and commands, making it easy perform common actions straight from your browser. To learn more about this feature refer to the announcement blog.
